Anansi - Comic Book

This project is a concept comic book that delves into the mystique and folklore of Anansi, the ancient African trickster and storyteller. Drawing inspiration from the series "American Gods," the story reimagines Anansi as a modern digital hero in the contemporary world. In this narrative, Anansi becomes the protector of the internet, fighting against cybercrime, misinformation, and propaganda. The comic blends traditional African mythology with modern themes of technology and cybersecurity, highlighting how ancient wisdom can address today's digital challenges. By bringing Anansi into the modern digital realm, the project aims to introduce this legendary character to new audiences while emphasizing the importance of truth and integrity in the information age.

I was responsible for bringing the story of Anansi to life through visual artistry by developing a unique visual style that seamlessly blends traditional African art elements with contemporary digital aesthetics.

My role involved creating character designs, environmental illustrations, and dynamic layouts that capture Anansi's transformation into a digital hero. I conducted extensive research into African folklore and visual motifs to ensure authentic representation of cultural elements. This research informed the creation of Anansi's modern persona, incorporating symbolic imagery that resonates with both his mythical origins and his new role in the digital world. I designed key visual assets, including Anansi's cyber-themed attire and the portrayal of cyberspace environments where he battles against cybercrime and propaganda.

In addition, I developed storyboards to map out the visual flow of the comic, ensuring that the narrative pacing and panel compositions effectively convey the story's themes and emotions. My contributions were pivotal in shaping the visual identity of the comic book, making the ancient tales of Anansi accessible and engaging to a modern audience.
